We met James's new teacher today. She seems really nice and he was partly nervous, partly excited, partly overwhelmed. But TOTALLY cute.
And when his teacher was showing him where his cubby was, she said "Look James, can you find your name?" and then didn't give him time to find it and said "that's okay, i'll show you, here it is." I was all (inside my head), "oh Miss Mari, James is a genius, he can write his name and almost every letter...you don't have to show him..." but I figure she'll realize that before long.
I took Clara school shopping Sunday and we got her a few DARLING outfits and a couple of cute pairs of shoes. They're tennies, but they're CUTE tennies, little Mary Jane type dealies. Anyway. First day of school she wears her leggings, new black shoes, a babydoll t-shirt and a peasant looking tank top thingie, we curl her hair and flip it out. Second day, she wears her new brown shirt, brown plaid shorts and brown shoes. Two braids.
Well, that's all I'm going to get out of her this year I guess. Because Day 3, she wanted to wear her freakin soccer PRACTICE clothes and new athletic shoes her dad bought her. Sigh. Same thing today, Day 4. My daughter, the super jock.
She was absolutely pleased as punch with herself because she managed to get off the bus today with no back sweat. It's the little things, am I right? She figured out the best seat on the bus for staying cool...the other days she's come home with a soaking wet back. I'm glad she figured it out and I really feel for the poor kindergartener who sits in that seat before Clara gets on the bus. She'll dropkick him/her right into the seat behind the driver. I kid. She'd NEVER.

My Girl
My girl is starting 5th grade tomorrow. I can't believe it.
She's been growing so quickly, and still...she has always been a child. She's now going to ride the bus, she's going to be in a school with12 year olds, probably even some 13 year olds. She's going to be exposed to so many things. She's going to learn so many things. She's going to hear so many things. I hope I have prepared her. I hope she will ask me when she hears about the things I know she will hear about.
I want her to be happy. I don't want anyone to make fun of her or hurt her. But what can I do? Nothing. There is NOTHING I can do. I know we all have to deal with growing up and hurting sometimes, but HOW I wish I could just follow her around...and just zap any person who even looks at her funny. By "zap" I mean obliterate with a supersonic ray gun (that is pink), of course.
I know she's going to hear about sex and drugs and skipping school and kissing and UGH just all the bad stuff (yes, I said "bad" - you know who you are). I know she's going to have questions that she WON'T ask me no matter what. I know this.
It's nearly 1 a.m. the night before her first day, and she is sleeping so peacefully. (I took a picture of it...but I won't post it because it'd probably embarrass her. She's got her mouth open, her hand is resting on her hip and her index finger is out and it appears that she's pointing to her crotch.) Anyway, I can't sleep. I didn't feel nearly this anxious her first day of kindergarten.
I love my girl. She's absolutely wonderful. She's patient, kind and thoughtful. She's HILARIOUS. She's the best daughter in the world. I know lots of moms say that but I really mean it. I don't deserve her. Neither does her dad or her stepdad. We are just totally lucky we got her. Also, have you SEEN HER EYES? Beautiful.
Good luck tomorrow, Clara. You're growing up TOO FAST.

His daddy will be so proud!
James and I were cleaning his room and he came across his play golf club.
He hit a balloon with it and said, "Hey Mom, I scored a hoe!"
Course, he meant "...scored a hole" but that isn't what he said.
And, as I logged on to get my blog on, he comes in and says "Hey Mom, I scored ANOTHER hoe!"
Can't wait to tell Scott!

She takes after her momma.
Clara, that is. I have THE ODDEST dreams, and it seems like Clara gets 'em sometimes too :)
She just sent me a text message and I will relay it here, letter for letter.
"I had a dream that i was at marry orr and u were taking the classes with me and i 4got my jim outfit and u had 2 go hom and get and it took u all day 2 get so when u got 2 the school and nobody was there so u went 2 the jim and u fell in a pool."
LOL.

A giant wha?
Today at the grocery store...James sees the watermelon display. "Look Daddy," he says, "HUGE, GIANT PEAS!"
Wheepooooo! that was cute.
Okay just a tiny blurb about my husband. He has mowed the lawn like the last four or five weeks (that's usually my job)...I don't even ask. He just does. He's picked up dog poop out of the yard and changed the cat's litter box. He showed up at my work today to bring me my new shampoo and deep conditioning treatment AND a rockin' new wallet, complete with bling. AND he bought my mother one, too. Wha?? Also, he made Clara breakfast in bed yesterday. AND! He bought me a replacement Magic Bullet since I wore my last one out, but I couldn't bring myself to buy another one, even though I loved it. My favorite part was the breakfast in bed for Clara...because he never even mentioned it to me...I found out from her by accident (I was griping at her for leaving a plate in her room, and she explained that it had just been brought in there that very morning, you know, because stepdaddy had brought her breakfast to wake her up).
Speaking of that, I decided to make some homemade sorbet for James with my Magic Bullet. I threw in some frozen raspberries and a couple tablespoons water. WHRRRRRRRRR! And it's done. It's this beautiful, vibrant red color, and its texture is inviting and gorgeous. Even Clara wants a taste and she's the pickiest girl EVER. So I give her the first taste. Bad idea - ya should've seen her face. Knowing how picky she is I give her a hard time and take a bite of my own. YOWZAS. Tastes like...I don't know...some kind of sour, bitter something. Icky!!! I don't know if the raspberries were bad or if maybe I should have added some sugar (defeating the purpose of the all natural dessert I was going for). So today I bought some strawberries and pineapple. Going to freeze those and try again tomorrow. See if I can't make it happen. Cross your fingers for me!

Weight loss
I was seriously pondering what it would be like to use this blog as a way to document weight loss. I could tell you what I eat, take before and after photos (and even during), tell you the exercise I do, type out how much weight I lose (or gain) each week.
And then I realized that I would rather die than broadcast what I ate yesterday. Some of you would feel sorry for me. Some would be disgusted. But ALL of you would never talk to me again.
So what I MIGHT do, is start another blog and make it private. DOcument everything there, INCLUDING before and after pictures, we're talking like maybe in a BIKINI...and then, when/if I ever reach my goal(s) I will open the blog up and let you all see what I went through.
Sound fair? Oh but I will say, if you ask me about it I'll never let you see it. Because what if I fail? Then we'll both be embarrassed that you brought it up.
Adios!

Product review!
Mr. Clean Magic Eraser.
Gotta get you some. These things truly are like magic. They are so versatile. I use them to clean my walls, my counters, my sinks, tubs, shower doors, hard floors, cabinets, etc.
My rent house kitchen is almost all white. And it had not been scrubbed down, really, since I bought it five years ago. I got some extra strength MCMEs and just kind of wiped down all the cabinets. Was a BREEZE! I had actually started with vinegar and paper towels and I was having to use my fingernail to scrape off some stuff. So I sent Scott to the store for the MCMEs and it made all the difference in the world. We're talking like 30 minutes for the entire kitchen, where it probably would have taken me at least an hour, probably longer, if I'd tried to do the entire thing with other cleaning methods.
These also work WONDERS on the inside of the microwave. You know how nasty it can get in there...well in my house anyway. The inside of my mom's microwave always looks new, but whatever.
Also is wonderful on kind of textured surfaces, like my fridge door and handle.
Two pieces of caution, though:
First, if you are using it on semi-gloss, satin or anything other than flat paint, you should be fine. If you are using it on a wall that has flat paint, be careful - it can take the paint right off. I personally haven't had much of a problem with it, and I have had no problem on non-flat paint. But some people do...just be careful. Test a small area or something.
Second, don't clean your kid with these. There was a blog somewhere about a woman who let her five year old clean with the MCME and he tried to clean his own skin - arms and face - and it wasnt pretty. Anyway mom got really mad and lashed out at MCME. Come on.
One more thing - supposedly the store brand magic erasers work just as well as the Mr. Clean brand. I have tried them and I disagree. They fall apart easier and don't clean as well in my tests. Also, the extra strength Mr. Clean brand is better than the regular, though the regular isn't bad.
Later, haters!

My life
So I thought it might be fun to tell you a little bit about our home life and my thoughts on parenting.
1. No TV. We never turn on the TV (and that is because we gave ours to a homeless blind man). I don't judge people who let their children sit in front of the television all day, but I choose to actually play with my children. As a special treat once a month, we might let them use the portable DVD player and watch one VeggieTales episode. There are just better things to do, like jog or sweep!
2. All organic raw vegetables. We don't eat meat in this house at all. A typical lunch in our house is like this: i put various foods on trays and we pick and choose what we like. For example, I might put homemade hummus, raw string beans, carrots, parsley, and whole garlic cloves on a tray, and then we just kind of eat what we want out of those items.
3. Homeschooling. I prefer to teach my children myself. I am the smartest person I know and the most moral to boot, so I feel confident that I am best equipped to educate my angels. Plus, I don't like alone time, and I rather prefer to spend every. single. waking. moment. with my loveys.
4. A lot of people come to my house and ask me how I keep it so perfect, clean and organized and smelling fresh. Well, not only am I kind of a superwoman and just naturally keep my house clean, but I have taught all nine of my children (ranging from age 6 months to 6 years) how to clean. The 18 month old is in charge of toilets, the 6 year old does the mopping, baseboards and ceiling fans, and everyone inbetween has their own jobs too. It works great for us.
5. Believe it or not, my husband and I NEVER fight. We have a dream relationship. We STILL get the major butterflies in our tummies every time we see each other. And I mean EVERY time. It could be that we are watching a movie on the DVD player and one of us has to "drop the kids off at the pool," if you know what I mean...well the second we open the door when we're finished...it's like, we've never seen each other before. It's delicious!
6. I am beautiful and smart and wonderful because JESUS LOVES ME. All you people who are not as attractive, etc., it’s because My Sweet Savior doesn’t love you the way he loves me. And you didn’t pray hard enough. I feel sorry for you because this is the truth! Jesus blesses those he loves the most! Also, this is why I am LOADED with money.
Well those are just a few of the things that make me ME! I have tons of other qualities that I’m sure I will write about later, not to brag, you know…just to let you know.
SO, YEAH, JUST KIDDING. FYI, I hate blogs of moms who brag about what good moms they are. I hope that doesn’t offend anyone. I am a little hooked on a blog where a mom goes on and on and on about these things. And what I want to do is eat a TON of enchiladas and then throw them up on her. I don’t know why I keep reading her blog. Fascination with abomination I suppose. Ick, ugh. Because if you hear me brag about my kids, it’s because the boy stopped cussing in public. Or the girl has mastered text message lingo. Or the boy learned how to count to five in Spanish by watching PBS. Or that I’ve purchased 50%-less-sugar juice and then made my own popsicles and then let the kids have them for breakfast. And I will not lie – I do love being with my kids, and I miss them like crazy when they’re not with me, but GAH I really need my alone time. This particular mom, I think truly believes, that she is rich and pretty because she prays hard enough and Jesus thinks she deserves it. Barfola.
Anyway. Like I said I’ve been reading this blog and I had to get this off my chest. So if you are a blogger and you behave like this, please know that you completely irritate the hell out of me, and I surely can’t be the only one.
Oh, PS, I TOTALLY agree with her about the husband thing. Butterflies, butterflies, butterflies. :) Well, okay, maybe not butterflies, and maybe he irritates me like nobody else ever has or ever will, but I have no doubt in my mind he is still the best, most trustworthy man I’ve ever met in my life. And I’m super lucky to have him. For real.
Keep praying for beauty and riches, yo!

What've I done?
So I am getting ready for this stupid garage sale. I think it is going to completely consume my life for the next week. I'm stressed, I'm sweaty, I'm overwhelmed. Getting all this B.S. out of my house (by the way, B.S. stands for Baloney Stuff, in case you were wondering) just makes me see how much MORE B.S. I'm still gonna have when I'm finished with this sale, because folks, I just cannot deal with it all. The good thing is, our neighborhood has an annual community sale in Octoberish, so by that time, I'll have gotten a ton of this stuff out and can hopefully get the rest then.
Last night we went over to Colleen's and Chad's and they made us dinner! We had delicious steak, baked potatoes, asparagus, salad and winey wine!!! Colleen has a new (FREAKING ADORABLE) baby girl and she (the baby) was a little out of her element with the house full of people, so Colleen didn't even get to sit and have dinner with us. But we still had a blast. Her house is so beautiful and her son is just a few weeks older than James, so they had a ball. James, Clara and Jacob started a band. They played a song called "El Pokey the Frog" over and over and over. The words were something like "I LOVE EL POKAAAAAAY! I LOVE EL POKAAAAAAAAAY! YES I DO! I REALLY REALLY DOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"
Poor, sweet, patient Clara really was a trooper and did everything those boys asked her to do. But she didn't do it to be nice, she did it because that's just how she is. She LIKES making people happy and she has fun doing it. My girl. She rox my sox off.

Girls' Night Out!
So last night, I went out with I dunno, 10 or 12 other girls and one guy. Dawn's husband, Rob, recently had back surgery and hasn't been out of the house much lately, so we made an exception for him. Plus, he's extremely adorable and lots of fun (and we really wanted Dawn to come).
Anyway, those of you who know my dad, does it surpise to you learn this: he showed up a couple hours into the evening, with my husband in tow. Actually, he made my husband drive him. Is it possible he was a lil tipsy? Either way, he showed up at the bar wearing a beautiful deep purple long sleeve button down shirt tucked into his multicolored swimtrunks pulled up as high as they would go, brown or black knee socks, house shoes with fur, and a straw hat. Does this surprise anyone?
He was a hoot and a hit and he gave me fifty bones to buy everyone a round :) THANK. YOU. DADDY. He wouldn't let me take his picture though. Why not? We have worse pictures of the man. I dunno, he's weird.

okay! people reviews! (Stacie)
All right, so besides product reviews, I'm going to give people reviews. I may not always have something totally interesting to write about, so sometimes I'll just make a post dedicated to one person in my life, tell you all about him or her, and write a little review about how wonderful or suckalicious they are.
Let's do my sister Stacie today.
Let's do my sister Stacie today.
Stacie was a beautiful child. The most beautiful of the siblings in our family. Cherubic blond curls and chubby cheeks. Perfect blue eyes. An ever-so-slight hint of buck teeth from her finger-sucking habit. She was amazing looking from the second I saw her. She was born via c-section and didn't have the weird misshapen head that a lot of babies do (more on that when i write about Clara). Her only imperfection right after birth was her nose. She rubbed her little nose so much on her sheet that she rubbed a scab that pretty much covered the entire tip of her nose. You can see it in her birth pictures from the hospital. But other than that...physically perfect!
Stacie's always been the little airhead of the family. I don't think she minds that title (let me know if you do, Stace).
We have all kinds of stories about Stacie’s absent-mindedness, feel free to share your own in the comments section. Of course, the most famous and frequently revisited is the telephone story. It goes a little something like this…
Telephone: Ring, ring!
Stacie: Hello?
Caller: May I speak with Mr. SomeoneWhoDoesn’tLiveThere?
Stacie: Oh, you have the wrong number. May I take a message?
This story has been told literally hundreds of times, I am sure.
Another thing about Stacie that I TOTALLY dig is her misunderstanding of song lyrics. Now don’t get me wrong, we all do this, but Stacie comes up with the funniest ones and sings her heart out. The most famous of these is “Roll with it” by Steve Winwood. I think that’s it anyway. She thought “You gotta roll with it, baby!” was “you got a bald headed baby!” SEE? FUNNNNNNNNY.
When she was young, she didn’t say “blue” she said “bleeew.”
I’m super jealous of her tan skin and ^&*#ing amazing hair.
She has extremely stinky feet. She once ran us out of a THREE STORY CONDO with some sandals she left by the door on the bottom floor.
She is a fantastic momma. Her son is like, the second cutest little boy I’ve ever seen in my life. He is quite smart and has the coolest hair (more on that when I write about Andrew).
She is sensitive to others’ feelings and makes delicious cookies!
I am only recently realizing how much we look alike. I’ve heard it all my life, but we are asked pretty frequently if we are TWINS! This is actually only when we’re at the gym, both of us disgusting sweaty pigs with no makeup. We both make the Elvis Face when we lift weights. We’re both “healthy-sized” if you know what I mean. And I think you do.
To sum it up, and I’m not including enough to actually convey how wonderful and dear my most babiest sister Stacie is…but she and I have actually gotten along fairly well most of our lives (more on that when I write about Steph), but we’ve only recently become FRIENDS. And, I am so grateful to my parents that they had her. I love having sisters and I LOVE being friends with them. I feel really, really lucky. I definitely would recommend this person to everyone I know!

Harts and love...
James Scott Squarepants!
We are teaching James his full name, address, phone number, etc. because we are the Best Parents in the World.
He thinks his full name is James Scott Squarepants. That will never stop being funny to me.

i know! i'll do product reviews!
I love products. All kinds. Makeup, cleaning supplies, gadgets, you name it. Especially made for tv stuff.
So I'm goign to review the things I have experience with and hopefully in turn, help you help yourself.
First, let me tell you about the PedEgg. This thing is amazing. I've heard a couple of people say it did nothing for them. If it does nothing for you, yer doin it wrong. You have to use it with completely dry feet. COMPLETELY. When you're a little damp, it really doesn't work. But...when your feet are dry and the hard, dry skin is just sitting there...it's like grating a hunk of parmesan cheese. Seriously! It looks like you could open the holder and just sprinkle a little on your spaghetti. But don't. Point is - it works GREAT.
What's that sweeper thing? it's that little motorized thing, you see it on tv, I can't remember what it's called. That's because it SUCKS. I wanted one for so long and Scott finally got me one. And I was a saaaaaaaaad girl when i realized how sucky sucktacular it was. Crud - when I remember, I'll tell you. Just don't get one.
Dirt Devil Broom Vac. Just awful. Again - wanted it forever, got it, hated it, returned it the same day. Don't get it.
Dyson vacuum. Worth every single penny. Especially since my mother-in-law paid for most of mine. Thanks Lady! Seriously, again, people who say it's not worth the money are LYING LIARS.
Thane H2O mop. If you listen to one thing I've told you today, listen to this. Get one of these. I did, and it changed my life. www.thane.com. In the last 3 weeks, my mother has ordered FOUR of these. One each for her, my sister, me and my husband's dojo. Don't worry, I'm paying her back. For one. The others are gifts. Isn't she the most? To say the least.
Okay, that's enough for tonight. I can't review everything right here, right now. I'll have nothing to write about later. If you have any questions/comment about any of these items, please let me know. I would be more than happy to gush or rant about how wonderful or sucktastic each one is.

Giving it a try
I'm going to give this blog thing a try...wish me luck!
I am sure that nobody gives a beep about most of the things I plan to write about, but oantcur.
So anyway, here's what's going on, in a nutshell:
Me: Getting ready for a girls' trip to Vegas at the beginning of next month. This is going to be a low key, maybe not even showing our faces on the strip kind of trip. Can't wait! Also, getting ready to have my renter move in tomorrow. I really like the guy. He seems like a sweetie, although he's quite a youngin - he called me his landlady and I giggled and said I felt like Helen Roper...and he was like, "uh, who??" SIGH. Also getting ready to have a garage sale to raise a little spending money for Vegas and to clear the clutter from my home and mind. I honestly can't take it anymore, and although I've fought it for a lifetime, I am turning into my mother. I decided to embrace it and love it instead of reject it...I might be in the midst of becoming a nutty woman with a slight case of OCD, who cleans up people's drinking glasses before they've finished their drinks...but I will be clean! I'm actually looking forward to it. Lastly, I am pondering my choices in decorating my bedroom and bathroom. RIght now, my plan is to paint the walls in both an earthy green, with perhaps a brown wall for accent. I'm also trying to find the courage to paint the wood cabinets in the bathroom white. Wish me luck!
Scott: He's really whooping some you-know-what in several areas of his life. He doesn't love a lot of attention, so I'll just let you know that 1) he's really drumming up business for the karate school, and 2) I've never had so much help in my life with housework. Those are not the only areas where he you-know-what kicking, but we'll not embarrass the poor feller.
Clara: Had her orientation for 5th grade yesterday. Learned all about changing classes, using a locker, P.E. uniforms, etc. She's so excited, and so am I. She has a new, really cool and sweet stepmom too. Things are going great for Clara! You know, now that her burn is finally healing. Oh, did I not tell you? That she caught on FIRE? No? Well, see, what had happened was...she was bending over a candle looking at a picture and her shirt caught fire! She didnt get hurt too much...the bad blistery 3rd degree burn is only about as big as a silver dollar. It's still disgusting and really hurts her :( Poor kid!
James: He's just trucking away. Learning to spell and add and playing on the computer. He's so super smart - it amazes me sometimes...and then other times...it's like he doesn't have a clue in life. You know, like when it comes to going to bed on time. Or cleaning his room. Tell him to clean his room and you might as well be talking to a box of rocks. Ah well. We will work on it. Good news about James - he's finally on some allergy drops, and a combo of other various medications, that actually seem to be working! He hasn't had an asthma attack or broken out in his itchy, red, inflamed skin since I don't remember when. YAY! He's like a new boy!
OHHHH and. One more thing about yours truly. I had my first PROFESSIONAL makeup job last weekend. Maybe nobody liked the job I did, they SEEMED to, but people are LIARS. So i dont know. All's *I* know is...I thought everyone I did looked beautiful! So if you see me around, feel free to pat me on the back.
Hugs and kisses, hearts and love!
