I wonder if I *always* think it is the Best Birthday Ever every year. I know I felt that way this time!
Scott dangled a birthday surprise for Saturday over my head all week. Finally Saturday came and after I got out of the bath and began to put on makeup, he came and told me that I was going to get facials and manicures with my sisters! Yay! So I said to heck with makeup and hair, and I put on some comfy clothes.
Scott still acted a little weird, like he was hiding something else but I didn’t push the issue, because if he was, then I didn’t want to ruin it! I love surprises!!
Turns out that everyone dropped a lot of hints about the other surprise, but I was just oblivious to it! First, when Stacie arrived, she asked if “anyone else” was meeting us at our house. Of course, that would be weird wording since we were just expecting Steph. Still, I didn’t really notice.
Then, when Steph arrived, I had to use the restroom, and so from behind the closed door, I asked Steph if she was wearing makeup. She said “I didn’t know if I should, and Mom…” and she trailed off. Again, I didn’t think anything of it, but apparently Scott gave her a dirty look that I couldn’t see from my side of the door.
Next, when we were getting ready to go, I noticed that Scott had set out four champagne glasses, and I asked him why. He said “oh, I just went ahead and washed them all…you only need to bring three.” And when we got to the salon, there was a reservation for FOUR instead of three. I still had no idea, even commented on how funny that everyone seemed to be pushing the number four, with the champagne glasses and the reservation for four.
As soon as I had told the guy it was just three (little did I know that Steph was winking at him behind my back and mouthing “it’s really four!”) I turned around, and MOM walked in!!!
I was so happy! And I was happy that Scott knew the way to make my day special was to invite my sisters to come with me, and then surprise me with my mom!!
Stacie and I ended up with facials at the same time Mom and Steph did pedicures. All took about an hour, and then we could all get manicures done at the same time. Stacie and I had never had facials before! Oh man. It was WONDERFUL. I was so relaxed the entire time.
During our manicures, we all drank champagne that Scott had provided. We had one of the salon employees open the first bottle and when it was time to open the 2nd, we couldn’t find him. So we bullied another guy, a client, into opening our champagne for us. We were all so happy and grateful to Scott for treating us to this incredible day. We are so lucky!!
After we were all dolled up and relaxed, the four of us had a late lunch/early dinner at No Frills. What a day! I was, shall we say, buzzed, between all the champagne and then the pitcher of beer that we split at No Frills. When I was dropped off at home, we immediately left to go get Scott a new phone. Long story short, I was still tipsy enough at the phone store that I decided it would be a good idea to get an iPhone. Groan. I love it, but there was nothing wrong with my old phone. And we had to cancel our contracts with TMobile to get these phones. Oh well, nothing I can do about it now.
Then last night, we went to Mom’s and Dad’s and had dinner. Dad made a DELICIOUS dinner and of course let me pick the entire menu. Dangerous! So we had: grilled shrimp, chicken and filet mignon…along with grilled fresh veggies – broccoli, squash, zucchini, onions. Mushrooms and asparagus! OMYum!!! Then at present time (gift time!), Andrew and James gave me pictures they’d colored, Stacie and Steph gave me money to put toward my new heart rate monitor, Mom gave me a voucher for one trip to Vegas (YEEEEEHAW) and Dad had ordered and paid for a NuWave oven!!! I’m tellin ya, I am not worth all of that! But I’ll take it :)
Then, finally, this morning, the kids and Scott came in while I was getting ready- Scott in his underwear, James with the worst case of bed-head I’ve ever seen, and Clara hardly able to open her eyes to the bright lights of the bathroom, and they sang me happy birthday and gave me my traditional poster-sized posterboard birthday cards, and sang me Happy Birthday.
What a fabulous start to Age 33!! Thank you Family!! I love you all so so so very much!
